Bio
Micah Brand is entering his fifth season as the Head Coach of the SUNY Orange Women's Basketball Program after being named head coach on July 31, 2021. Prior to being named the women's head coach, Brand worked as an assistant coach for the SUNY Orange Men’s Basketball team from 2019-2021.
In 2024-25 Brand led the Colts back to the Region XV championship game for the second straight year. Freshmen Adriana Vazquez and Olivia Harrison were named to the Region XV First Team and sophomore Victoria Harrison was named to the Region XV Sportsmanship Team.
After not fielding a team in 2022-23, the Colts rebounded with an 8-13 record in 2023-24 and a berth in the Region XV championship game. Liliana Ramirez earned Region XV First Team honors, while Jaylen Soltani and Victoria Harrison earned Second Team honors. Amiyah Nguyen was named to the Region XV Sportsmanship Team.
Tasked with rebuilding the program following the COVID-19 pandemic, Brand led the Colts to a 3-8 record in his first season at the helm. A 56-40 win over Kingsborough on November 20, 2021 gave Brand his first victory as the Colts' head coach.
As the lead assistant coach for the SUNY Orange men's basketball team, Brand's primary responsibility was recruiting and developing players, including 2023 NJCAA Division II Player of the Year Romeo Aquino.
During the 2016-17 season, Brand served as a player development coach for Region XV rival Sullivan County Community College where he helped develop Second-Team All American Ardella Brown.
From 2010 to 2017, Brand returned to his alma mater, Middletown High School, to assist the Middies in a player development role.
Before joining the coaching ranks, Brand enjoyed a successful 10-year professional career overseas. Over the course of his professional career, Brand was named all-league seven times (2005-2012) and was twice named Center of the Year (2005 and 2009). He was named to over a dozen All-Import teams througout his career, including being named Korean Basketball League Import Player of the Year in 2009 while also being named First Team All-KBL that same year. Brand earned Arab Championship All-Tournament honors while playing for Sagesse Club in Lebanon in 2010.
Following a stadout prep career, first at Middletown High School and then at Milford Academy, Brand was named an honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith magazine and the seventh-ranked post player in the nation by Athlon magazine.
Ranked among the top 60 prep players in the country, Brand spent his college career at the University of Massachusetts. Following his sophomore campaign in 2001, he was named the Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player, earning All-Atlantic 10 Third Team honors. Brand appeared in over 100 games for the Minutemen, totaling 837 points and 503 rebounds over the course of his career.
A lifelong resident of Middletown, Coach Brand is heavily involved in the community, working with the Middletown Youth Sports organization, as well as with the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide youth basketball clinics. Brand is currently a crisis counselor in the Middletown City School District, and has held positions as the college prep director for the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh, and the Residential Director of a behavioral health agency. Brand is also the owner of Attack the Rim Basketball Academy.
Brand earned his his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UMass-Amherst and his master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Capella University. Micah and his wife, Danielle, have been married since 2010 and have four children.
