The SUNY Orange Colts took on the defending Region XV Champions the Generals from Sullivan County in a four game conference series. The first two games were a double header taking place at the SUNY Orange Baseball Field. In game one the Generals jumped out to an early lead and scored 11 runs in the first three innings as the Colts could not keep up with the defending champs. In five innings of play the Colts lost by a score of 16-2, Pitcher Gabe Alfonso pitched 3.1 innings in relief for the Colts giving up six hits and nine runs while striking out and walking five batters. Ben Intili took the loss in game one pitching one inning and giving up seven runs on five hits while walking and striking out just one batter.
Richard Bosser, Francisco Velez, Josh Martin and Andrew Reda all recorded a hit in the first game with Josh Martin hitting the teams only double. SUNY Orange also turned one double play to save a few runs.
In game two the Generals were able to jump out to another big lead scoring 8 runs in the first 4 innings to the Colts 2. With a final score of 13-2 the Colts picked up their second conference series loss against the Generals. Kurtis Martin pitched five innings in relief for the Colts and allowed thirteen hits and nine runs while striking out one batter and walking three. Anthony Papagni took the loss for the Colts, the right handed pitcher went for just two innings surrendering 4 runs on five hits while striking out one batter and not walking any.
William Treco hit the team's only double of the game and was one of 3 batters to record a hit. Along with Treco, Josh Martin and Andrew Reda each collected a hit. Richard Bosser and Andrew Reda were a one two punch in the line up as they were the only two to drive in a run.
Game number three despite the score was a better team performance for the Colts. After just two innings of play the score was tied at two runs a piece after a Andrew Reda two-run homerun deep into center field (this is Reda's 4th HR of the Year). Pitcher Brian Saldana pitched 4.1 innings in relief for the Colts giving up 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out three and not walking any. William Treco earned the loss for the Colts after pitching 3.2 innings and allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out one and walking four.
Brian Saldana and Andrew Reda were tough to handle back to back in the lineup as they each drove in two runs. Brian Saldana and Josh Martin both earned a double in the game.
The fourth and final game was the roughest of them all, losing 27-0 the Colts had no answer for the Generals and could not seem to come in contact with the ball. There were only three hits the Colts managed to record coming from Ben Intili, Richard Bosser and Kurtis Martin.
Anthony Papagni took the loss in the game pitching just one inning giving up five runs on six hits while striking out one and walking none. Dylan Craparo pitched the most in the game pitching 2.2 innings and allowing 14 runs on 10 hits while striking out one and walking six.
The Colts will have to look past their tough series and focus on their next one. Their next conference series is against Westchester starting May 2nd and will have 9 games until that series. They face off against MSMC JV on Friday April 19th and then Sunday April 21st both games will take place at the SUNY Orange Baseball Field
