On Thursday of last week the Colts played the Vikings for their first of four appearances before they enter the postseason. On what has been the hottest game the Colts have played this year they looked to get the win against a tough opponent. To start out the game the Colts found themselves trailing by just one run in the top of the first after both teams went scoreless through the first. But thanks to a single from Richard Bosser which drove in the tying run and the first points of the game for the Colts and unfortunately this will be the only time they are tied for the entire game as Westchester responded and broke out for 6 runs scored in the top of the third inning to take a 7-1 lead completely turning this game upside down and put the Colts in a difficult situation. The Colts would later score three runs in the bottom of the seventh coming from a Francisco Velez who notched his first career home run to deep left field scoring two runs followed by a Dylan Craparo single, scoring just one run to make the score 11-6 after 7 innings.
The Colts collected 12 hits as a team with the number seven hitter Frank Velez leading the way collecting two hits one being his first career home run and led the team with two runs batted in. There were four different athletes who collected more than two hits in the game coming from Richard Bosser, Francisco Velez, Ben Intili and Dylan Craparo along with some great heads up baserunning from Derek Sherman and Aundre Rick who each stole multiple bases collecting four total stolen bases for the Colts. Brian Saldana and Francisco Velez finished with the only two XBH Saldana hitting the only triple and Velez hitting the only homerun for the Colts.
Pitcher Kurtis Martin pitched five innings in relief giving up eight hits and five runs while striking out two and not allowing any walks. William Treco started on the mound for the Colts earning the loss, Treco pitched for two and one-third innings, allowing six runs on just three hits, striking out one and walking four batters.
Friday May 3rd the Colts hosted game number two against the Vikings and they had their troubles keeping up with Westchester losing to the Vikings 19-3. In what was a very tough outing for the Colts as they collected their first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning coming from a Francisco Velez single to start off the inning but unfortunately were unable to convert. Aside from the tough performance from the Colts, Richard Bosser and Brian Saldana were able to each drive in a run being a tough one two punch batting back-to-back in the lineup. Richard Bosser, Derek Sherman, Brian Saldana and Francisco were the only ones to collect a hit in 23 total appearances for the Colts.
Brian Saldana pitched five innings in relief for the Colts. The right-hander surrendered 13 hits and 13 runs while striking out six and walking three batters. Ben Intili started on the mound taking the loss. The righty went for one-third of an inning allowing four runs on four hits.
Saturday the Colts traveled to Westchester's home field for their last double header of the regular season. The Colts fell short to the Vikings taking their third consecutive loss against Westchester losing 7-0 the Colts accumulated just 4 hits in 23 at bats with the number nine hitter Aundre Rick leading the team with two hits in three-at-bats. The Colts unfortunately were unable to put up any runs on the board and could not get more than a single.
Anthony Papagni took the loss as he pitched for three innings allowing one run on one hit that was a homerun early in the game. Gabe Alfonso pitched 3 innings in relief for the Colts, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out two batters.
In game number four the Colts were unable to score, losing 12-0 in what was an upsetting performance inside of the batter's box. The Colts had 17 at bats in the game and were only able to come away with two hits coming from Brian Saldana who finished the day going two-for-two with two singles. Dylan Craparo earned the loss for the Colts the starting left handed pitcher pitched for three innings facing off against 25 batters while allowing twelve runs on eleven hits while not striking out or walking a single batter and it was Kurtis Martin who pitched one inning in relief giving off against just 5 batters and allowing just one hit.
The Colts will have to look past their tough losses against the Vikings as they face off against the Generals of Sullivan County On Thursday May 9th for the first round of playoffs.
