Colts take game two to split Doubleheader with Monroe

The SUNY Orange Colts took on the Mustangs of Monroe University Junior Varsity team for a Saturday afternoon double header. In game one the Colts fell to Monroe University despite out hitting them 12-4, each team found success on the pitchers mound as Monroe struck out four batters while the Colts sat down eight.
The Colts opened up the scoring book in the bottom of the second inning thanks to Niko Mandich and Jadin O'Neil each singled, driving in a run to give the Colts an early lead. After a scoreless third inning the Mustangs were able to rally back and score their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, unable to answer back in the fourth the Colts still held a 2-1 lead.
The Mustangs took the lead late in the game after neither team was able to reach home in three straight innings. After a costly error Monroe managed to score two runs giving them their first lead of the game with a 3-2 lead.
Pitcher Gabe Alfonso earned the loss in the game after pitching one inning surrendering two runs (zero earned) on one hit and walking none. Pitcher Evan Johnson started on the mound for the Colts as the left hander gave up two hits and one run over four innings striking out five batters and walking four
In game two of the Mustangs vs the Colts, SUNY Orange was able to get their revenge and secure the 14-10 victory. In this high scoring affair their was a combined 22 hits by both teams as the Colts out hit the Mustangs 12-10.
The Mustangs opened the game up scoring back to back runs in the top of the second inning and was able to continue with their early success as the Mustangs managed to score six runs in the first three innings of play as the Colts had their troubles early in the game coming away with just two runs on four hits. After holding the Mustangs to a scoreless inning the Colts flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs on three hits to take a 7-6 lead. To start off their strong inning Matt Nixon tripled on a line drive to deep center field and soon would come around to score. With two outs the Colts were patient inside the batters box and earned back-to-back-to-back walks giving Brian Saldana an amazing opportunity with the bases loaded, not turning his back to the pressure with a 2-1 count and two outs Saldana smashes a line drive into right field scoring all three runners as Saldana makes his way to 2nd base, tying the score at six runs each. The Colts were not done yet as Jonas Kerzner doubles on a fly ball to center field bringing around Saldana to take a 7-6 lead over the Mustangs.
The very next inning the Mustangs rallied back and regained their lead but was not enough to hold off the Colts as SUNY Orange scored six runs without recording an out giving the Colts a 13-8 lead with the largest play coming from B. Saldana who again came up to bat with the bases loaded and on a 0-2 count smashed another 3 RBI double. Brian would then come around to score on a heads up play to steal home.
Ronnie Anzovino earned the win for the Colts, the southpaw gave up zero hits and one run while striking out one and walking two. Anthony Borromeo started on the mound for the Colts, the left hander threw for 3.2 innings surrendering five hits and six runs while striking out and walking one.
G. Alfonso came in to close out the game pitching one inning, surrendering zero hits, zero runs, zero walks and struck out two of three batters faced.
