Colts fall to 0-5 after their loss to Bronx Community College
The SUNY Orange Colts traveled to Bronx Community College for a beautiful Thursday afternoon showdown. In an upsetting defeat the SUNY Orange fell a few goals short of victory after leading at halftime 3-2.
By a score of 5-3 the Colts fell to a record of 0-5 through their first five games. The Broncos were the first to score in the game and did it in quick fashion as Ashraf Abubaker was able to score before five minutes of play to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead. Shortly after Bronx was able to score one more goal coming from Mikdad Abubaker to give them a 2-0 after 14 minutes of play.
The Colts were quick to respond and were able to score THREE goals within a nine minute span. First to score for the Colts was the Freshman midfielder #8 Jonathan Santos (2nd Goal of the Season) to give the Colts a one goal deficit with around 20 minutes of play left in the first half of the game. Just four minutes later Santos decided to do it himself once again and tied the game up at 2-2 giving him his second goal of the game and his third on the season scoring at minutes 25:00 and 29:00. With the score tied the Sophomore Midfielder Edwin Ortega gave the Colts the lead scoring the third and final goal for the Colts coming off of a penalty kick just before the half at minute 33:00. This was Ortega's first goal of the season and also his first goal with a SUNY Orange uniform on. While it was a tough loss for the Colts as a team they were able to get off 10 total shots with 5 shots on goal and 3 total goals.
Unfortunately the Broncos were quick to respond back and were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the 48th minute and after that point showed no signs of letting up, while tempers started to flare the Broncos were able to capitalize and net 3 of their own goals in the 2nd half to give them a 5-3 victory.
Goalie Ebani Rugerio saw a total of 9 shots on net and let in 5 while saving just 4 and now has 31 saves on the year with a .508 save percentage through the first five games of the year.
The Colts will be taking on the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College as they will be traveling to Long Island on Saturday September 21st at 12:00 PM for what will be the Colts 6th game of the year and just 7 games to play after their travels on Saturday.
