Season Opener Win
A dominate sweep against Monroe Express where the Colts scored 33 runs!
The SUNY Orange Colts were on the road against Monroe College - Bronx for their first double header of the season.
In Game #1 the Colts were the first to put points on the board coming from two throwing errors by Monroe that scored Dawn Grover and Gabriella Olivo then after the Colts were able to reach base 4x times due to walks they earned their first hit of the game coming from Aryssia Clune who clubbed a double to right center field and was able to bring Molly Martin and Jaylee Ramos to give the Colts a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Colts showed zero signs of letting up and scored an amazing 10 hits and 14 runs in just the second inning to make the score 18-0. The Colts were able to shut-out Monroe Express for the first two innings before they were able to score two runs coming off of a double and a fielding error. After two quiet innings the Colts were only able to get just one hit which drove in a run they turned things up with a leadoff home run to left center field coming from Gianna Catletti to give the Colts a 20-2 to cap off their mercy rule win in the 5th inning.
Pitcher freshman Gianna Catletti had a fantastic performance on the mound and earned her first win of the season. In five total innings pitched she only allowed two hits, just one earned run scored and walked 2 batters in the 21 that she faced. Catletti threw 57 strikes and 25 balls resulting in 10 strikeouts in 82 pitches thrown.
Game #2 was a quiet first inning as all three batters for both the Colts and Monroe Express got out and neither team was able to reach base. The Colts were then able to score 5 runs in back to back innings to get a commanding lead and put game number two to rest. SUNY Orange was able to score 3 more points before Monroe Express were able to score their first run and finish the game with a score of 13-1 to give the Colts the sweep and their first two victories of the year.
Sophomore, Pitcher Molly Martin earned her first win of the year as she faced 24 batters in the game where she struck out seven and only three were able to make contact with the ball and earn a hit. Martin threw 95 total pitches with 57 strikes and 38 balls.
In the two games the Colts put on a masterclass performance notching 33 runs scored in 10 innings of game play, they came in contact and have 28 hits as a team with 3 doubles and a homerun for a team batting average of .459. Aside from their great hitting their heads up, baserunning is not something to look past as they had 7 stolen bases and were not caught stealing at all during the two games.
