Colts Home Opener vs Sussex County Community College
The SUNY Orange Colts took on Sussex Community College for a Friday afternoon showdown as the Colts finally are able to play on their home field after being on the road for the first 12 games of the season as they stand at 5-7 after losing their last four games they look to turn things around and get the win at home.
The first game was an even matchup as neither team was able to put numbers on the board with both teams playing incredible defense. Both were having troubles coming in contact with the ball as neither team has had success on the base path. After 3 innings of no scoring the Colts decided that enough was enough and started to make some big plays. Due to some heads up baserunning the Colts were able to earn a 5-0 lead going into the last inning of the game while Sussex was still trying to score their first runs of the game.
Pitcher #24 Gianna Catletti was stellar on the mound pitching the whole game and only allowing 2 hits for the entire game. Catletti finished with a phenomenal 13 strikeouts and unfortunately hit 2 batters with pitches to advance them to first base.
SS #12 Gabriella Olivo had a great day swinging the bat as she got on base 2 out of 3 times she went up to the plate and smashed an RBI double where she advanced to third on a bad throw to home plate.
Game #2 was another great performance by the Colts after trailing for the first four innings the Colts turned things around in the fourth inning of the game scoring six total runs giving them their first lead of the game. With a final score of 11-8 the Colts completed their two game sweep over Sussex Community College. This game was nothing but exciting as both team recorded double digit hits, in 35 at bats for the Colts they recorded 15 hits with five players recording hits for an RBI and only struck out two times in the entire game.
Pitcher #4 Molly Martin earned her third win of the season facing 39 batters and struck out five batters while walking just one batter. C/1B #9 Lindsay Keane had a fantastic game at the plate. In four at bats she recorded 3 hits two of them being doubles while recording one RBI.
The Colts stand at an even 7-7 through the first 14 games of the season as they look to earn some wins as they face off against Monroe Community College on Tuesday March 26th and Lackawanna College on Thursday March 28th
