POST SEASON!!!!
For the first time since 2016 the SUNY Orange Colts are heading to the playoffs, they will be traveling to Potomac State College this weekend May 4th to take on the #1 seeded Potomac State who have a record of 31 wins and 11 losses and are on a five game win streak winning 3 games against Lackawanna College and two against Allegany College of Maryland. The Colts have had a phenomenal season thus far after having a record of 10-10 through their first 20 games of the year they jumped out and knew they could accomplish much more, going 17-1 through their next 18 games played sitting at a record of 27 wins and 11 with just two more games this regular season they look to go 19-1 through their last 20 games and achieve a record of 29 wins and 11 losses for the regular season. After losing to their last opponent the CCRI Lady Knights the Colts have gone on to a four game winning streak and with just two games left they look to head into the postseason with their much needed winning streak as they face off against some tougher opponents going into the Region 20 tournament.
There have been four athletes who have appeared in every scheduled game this season, Freshmen Gianna Catletti, Jaylee Ramos and Gabriella Olivo along with Sophomore Molly Martin have appeared in all 38 games and only Gabriella has played the same position throughout the entire season playing the SS position.
Freshman Gianna Catletti has been a force of nature all season as she leads the team with 9/16 hitting categories ( leads in at bats, hits, home runs, runs batted in, batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, total bases and extra base hits). Aside from her fantastic hitting season Catletti has pitched the most innings for the Colts pitching 97.2 innings striking out 93 batters and strikes out 6.67 batters per 7 innings with an earned run average of 3.37 runs per game pitched. She ranks in the top #35 players in the Nation in 4 different categories, tied at #1st for Fielding Percentage with a 1.000 percentage, #19 in Batting average with .513 and On Base Percentage with .573 lastly holds the #31st spot in Runs Batted In with 59.
Sophomore Dawn Grover has stepped up in a huge way this season and did it when the team needed her most. To start out the season Grover was struggling inside the batter's box as she had a batting average of .289 with 13 runs on 13 hits through the first 15 games of the year. In the month of April Grover flipped the switch and went on a tear, going 36 for 73 in 22 games played Grover tallied 9 doubles and 2 triples with 1 home run and 22 runs batted in giving her a batting average of .493. Dawn currently holds the fourth best batting average on the team with a .415 average and has the second most hits on the team trailing by 12 hits.
Freshman Lindsay Keane has been a stellar all season and proves each and every game why she deserves to be on the field. Keane plays in the 1st base and catcher position but most of her plays reside from behind home plate. Keane has caught 9 batters stealing sitting in the top 20 at #19 and has allowed just 5 pitches to get past her. Keane has the third most plate appearances on the team and has the 6th highest batting average on the team. Keane is ranked 3rd on the team in Runs Batted In, hits and total bases. She has the most doubles and is one extra base hit away from being tied for the most XBH on the team while also leading the team in putouts with 161 outs on 174 chances with a fielding percentage.
Through the first 38 games of the year the team finds themselves among the best teams in the nation with rankings all within the top 100 in 10 different categories:
