All Region Accolades
SUNY Orange finished their regular season as the #2 teams in the conference with a record of 8 wins and 12 losses. They will look to continue their success Sunday March 7th against the powerhouse Sullivan County. During the voting there were four athletes whose names could not be left off of the list. Sophomore Liliana Ramirez found herself as the only athlete outside of Sullivan County to earn a spot on the All-Region 1st Team in the small forward position. Freshman Jaylen Soltani and Victoria Harrison found themselves on the 2nd team All-Region and sophomore Amiyah Nguyen earned the Region XV DII Women's Basketball Sportsmanship Award.
#3 Liliana Ramirez finished the season as the only active sophomore and showed it on the court as she was a leader and one of the main contributors to most games. Liliana started in every game that she played in and did not miss a single game this season appearing in 20/20 games. The role that Liliana played was massive and she never backed down from what was in front of her and knew that if she were to fall down her team would be there to pick her right back up, she finished the seasons as the team leader in Points per Game, Steals per Game, Rebounds per Game, and tied for 1st in Blocks per game. Liliana is also the team leader in total Points, Free Throws Made, Field Goals Made, Rebounds, Steals and is tied for most blocks at 17. Ramirez's best game was on February 15th where she recorded 19 points and a season high 21 rebounds in a hard fought game against Middlesex where they unfortunately did not come away with the win.
#10 Jaylen Soltani capped off her freshman season earning a spot on the 2nd team All-Region scoring 10.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Soltani played in 19 out of 20 games and started the last 11 games of the season and finished the season with the most 3 point shots made at 20, most assists with 27 and is tied for the 2nd most shots made on the team with 67. Soltani made a positive impact everytime she stepped onto the court and made the most of her time. Her best performance of the season came when it mattered most, in their last win against Ulster County Soltani scored 17 points while shooting 3/4 from the free throw line and adding 5 assists, 3 rebounds, one steal and one block.
#23 Victoria Harrison also finished her freshman season earning a spot on the All-Region 2nd Team. In the 2023-24 season Harrison started in 17/19 games that she appeared in and averaged 8.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Harrison finished with the third most points scored on the team with 153 total points. Harrison is tied for the second most field goals made at 67, has the second most steals with 50 and the second most defensive rebounds on the team with 57. Harrison also had her best performance in the game against Ulster County where she finished as the leading scorer with 21 points and added 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal to her fantastic night.
#1 Amiyah Nguyen was on pace for a fantastic sophomore year as she started 11/11 games that she appeared in and was a force to be reckoned with averaging 13.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game before that all came to an end where she suffered a season ending knee injury during Raritan Valley on December 19th. Although she was injured that did not stop her from showing up to all games and practices to show support for her team which is why she earned this years Sportsmanship Award for SUNY Orange Women's Basketball.
