Colts fall to 0-1 after their loss to Hudson Valley on 11/7
On Thursday November 7th the SUNY Orange Colts took on the Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College. This was the first game the Colts played in the 2024 season as Coach Micah Brand will be leading an almost new team to victory with 3/11 players who are returning Sophomores. In the start of the first quarter it was the Colts who managed to put up the first point on the board coming from Sophomore Victoria Harrison coming off a free throw attempt. After the almost 5 minutes of play in the first half the Colts held Hudson Valley to 0 points scored before scoring back to back points for the games first lead change. Both teams seemed to face early foul troubles with 10+ fouls committed between both teams with over 3 minutes left in just the very first quarter and after the first quarter the Colts find themselves trailing 20-13.
In the second quarter of the game the Colts found themselves by a large margin after getting outscored by the Vikings 32-8 for a score of 52-21 to end the first half of the game.
In the second half the Colts looked to regain their lead they had in the beginning of the game, cutting the lead down to 22 at the end of quarter number three with a score of 59-37 and after the fourth and final quarter comes to a close the Colts finish their first game with a loss after a score of 69-43 giving the Colts an 0-1 record. Their next game will be against Region XV opponent the Generals fo Sullivan County, this will be the teams first away game of the season they are set to play at 5:00.
In this game there were three freshman who made the most of their debut in a Colts uniform. Freshman guard #5 Adriana Vazquez was the teams leading scorerfinishing with 15 points scored. Vazquez had a great day from the free throw line going 5/6 (83%) while also recording five rebounds one assist and two steals. Freshman guard #12 Shalesse Joyner scored the second most points finishing with 9 points going 3/4 (75%) from the free throw line. Joyner also led the team in assists and steals finishing with two assits and five steals while also adding a rebound to her statline. Freshman forward #10 Olivia Harrison finished tied with teammate Victoria Harrison with seven rebounds. Olivia also scored seven points shooting 3-6 (50%) from the free throw line and also had two steals.
