The Colts took on Raritan Valley Community College and #19 Niagra County Community College

On Saturday January 11th and Sunday January 12th the SUNY Orange Colts participated in the Monroe University Mixer where they faced off against the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College and the #19 ranked team in the Nation in SUNY Niagra. In the first game the Colts took on the Lions of Raritan Valley on January 11th. This was the second time that the Colts faced off against the Lions with less than a month apart from each other, unfortunately the Colts were unsuccessful for the second time this season against Raritan Valley. After a hard fought four quarters the Colts end game one with the loss by a score do 86-59, to start out the game Raritan Valley managed to score the games first points and would go on a 6 point run before So. Center #44 Alexis Aquino scored the first two points for the Colts. In Q1 both teams found success scoring the ball with a combined 13 points scored between the two teams all within the last 4:30 left in the quarter, leading 18-15 going into the second quarter the Colts had their best shooting performance of the night with a 57.1% shooting percentage and went 2/2 from the free throw line with 4/5 starters with four or more points, while also out rebounding their opponent 11-3.
Coming out of the break the Colts faced their struggles after scoring the first points of the second quarter from an Eva Bloom layup to increase their lead to 20-15 and after four consecutive turnovers leading to points on the other end the Colts were forced to call their first timeout of the quarter as the score stood at 20-23 with the Colts trailing. Unlike the first quarter the Colts would go into the second half trailing by 10 points after leading by three in the first, scoring just nine points in the second quarter Coach Brand and will have to find a way to bring his team back and cut their deficit with 20 minutes left in the game.
After halftime the SUNY Orange Colts needed to turn the tables in hopes of coming back and securing the victory as the score was 27-37. For the first few minutes of Q3 both teams had their fair share of makes and misses with the first timeout called by the Colts with 6:34 left on the clock the score stood at 46-33. After the first ten minutes the Colts had troubles shooting the ball going 10-32 in quarters two and three with a 31.3 shooting percentage. Entering Q4 the Colts already scored more points then their last outing against the Lions after just three quarters and after the last ten minutes of play the SUNY Orange Colts scored 15 points on 6/12 shooting while reaching a quarter high in assists dishing out five assists in the fourth and final quarter.
After four quarters the SUNY Orange Colts suffer a loss to the Lions of Raritan Valley Community College.
In the first half of the game the Colts scored 27 points on 12/32 shooting (37.5%) and went 3/4 from the free throw line, in the second half the Colts scored 32 points on 12/31 shooting (38.7) and went 8/10 from the free throw line. The Colts finished the game with 34 rebounds to the Lions 28.

Fr. Guard #35 Adriana Vazquez led the way in points for the Colts scoring 16 points shooting 6/17 and going 4-6 from the free throw line. Vazquez added six rebounds, four assists and one steal to her night.
So. Center #44 Alexis Aquino finished just one point shy of tying teammate Adriana Vazquez. Aquino finished the night with 15 points with the best shooting performance of the night making 7/8 shots for a shooting percentage of 87.5%. Aside from the great shooting night Aquino added seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks.
Fr. Forward #10 Olivia Harrison led the way in rebounds for the Colts finishing with 12 rebounds grabbing three offensive and nine defensive rebounds. Olivia finished the game with her third double-double of the season finishing with 12 points and 12 rebounds and also added one assist.

On Sunday Jan. 12th the SUNY Orange Colts faced off against the #19 ranked team in the Nation SUNY Niagara. Going into this game SUNY Niagara average 84.6 points scored per game while holding their opponent to under 49 points at 48.6 points scored on per game. The Colts will have a tough time scoring the ball due to the tenacious defense of the Thunderwolves. With game two under way it was the Thunderwolves who put the first points on the board and would go on to score 10 unanswered points after just three minutes of play. After the first ten minutes of play the SUNY Orange Colts found themselves trailing by 20 points after the Thunderwolves scored 29 points to the Colts 9.
Much like the Q1 the SUNY Orange Colts would be outscored 63-32 with the Colts suffering their second loss of the weekend by a score of 92-41. In this game the Colts could not find an answer for the Thunderwolves defense finishing with 41 points on 16/53 shooting.
Despite the loss this was the sixth time that the Colts finished with over 30% shooting percentage and their fifth time where they finished with a free throw percentage of 60% or more. This was also the first time this season that the Colts finished with 30+ defensive rebounds even though the Colts got out rebounded by the Thunderwolves by seven rebounds.

Fr. Forward #10 Olivia Harrison was the Colts leading scorer scoring 11 points on 5/15 shooting. Olivia finished the game with her fourth double-double of the season and her career, recording 16 rebounds for the second time this season Harrison led the way in both categories. Olivia also added one assist and one steal to her night.
So. Guard #23 Victoria Harrison finished the game as the Colts second highest rebounder, recording seven rebounds.
Fr. Guard #1 Neveah Valentine and Fr. Guard #35 Adriana Vazquez finished tied with nine points scored and three rebounds.
The Colts will look forward to their next game as they take on the Caiman from Hostos Community College on Tuesday Jan. 14th at 5:00 PM
