Bio
Micah Brand is entering his third season as the Head Coach of the SUNY Orange Women's Basketball Program after his first shortened season in 2021-22. Before he became the women's head coach, Brand worked as an assistant for the SUNY Orange Men’s Basketball team.
2023-24: 2nd season 8-13 record
2021: 1st season (Covid shortened) 3-8 record
2019-2021: Assistant Coach (SUNY Orange MBB); Helped to recruit 6 players who went on to be All- Conference players, including the 2023 NJCAA Division II Player of the Year.
2015-Present: Owner of Attack the Rim Basketball Academy
2010-2017: Player Development (Middletown HS Varsity Basketball)
Coach Brand has a long history of success as a player as well. A top 60 nationally ranked player, Coach Brand played at the University of Massachusetts from 1999 to 2003. In 2001 he was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 3rd team, also being named the league’s
Most Improved Player. From 2003-2013, Brand played professionally overseas, spending time in 14 countries, winning 2 league championships, and over a dozen All-Import Team honors. He was named the Korean Basketball League’s Import Player of the Year in 2009, as well as All-KBL 1st team. He was also named to the Arab Championship all-tournament team in 2010 while playing for Sagesse Club in Lebanon. Over the course of his playing career, Brand was an all-league selection seven times, named Center of the Year twice.
A lifelong resident of Middletown, Coach Brand is heavily involved in the community, working with the Middletown Youth Sports organization, as well as with the department of parks and recreation to provide youth basketball clinics. Coach Brand is currently a crisis counselor in Middletown City School District, and has held positions as the college prep director for the Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh, and the Residentual Director of a behavioral health agency.
Brand earned his master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Capella University and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UMass-Amherst. Micah and his wife, Danielle, have been married since 2010 and have 4 children
