Colts split double duel against F.I.T and BMCC
On Saturday the SUNY Orange Colts played in a double duel against the Fashion Institute of Technology Tigers and the Panthers of the Borough Of Manhattan Community College. In the first match it was the Colts taking on the Tigers of F.I.T, this was the first time these two teams faced off against each other this season and with F.I.T being ranked just one spot above the Colts in Region XV and after defeating the Tigers last season in the Semi-Finals both teams will look to get back to where they were last season. This match was nothing less than exciting, going four sets there was a 10 point scoring difference between the two teams as sets 2-4 all ended with the exact same score of 25-23.
In set number one the Tigers secured the win beating the Colts 25-21 giving them a 1-0 lead needing to win just two more sets to win the match. In the second set of the match the Colts were able to rally back and even the score at one set a piece after winning set two 25-23 in hopes of carrying over their success into set number three.
In the third and fourth set the Colts ended up losing both sets 25-23 giving them their second loss on the year and with little time to think about their mistakes, they had a quick turnaround playing their second game of the day against the 5-5 Panthers of BMCC. Despite the loss there are a few athletes who played exceptionally well in the game.
Fr #4 Grace Malzahn led the team in digs with a total of 15, she also finished the game with four kills, one assist, two service aces and 6.0 points
Fr #6 Lily Noteboom had a great game as she finished with 8 kills on 25 attempts, 10 assists as she now has had 10+ assists in the last 6 games. Noteboom also added four service aces and 13.0 points.
Fr #8 Araceli Ospina also played extremely well finishing as the leader for the Colts in Kills and Assists for the game. Finishing with 11 kills on 31 attempts, 13 assists, two service aces, two blocks and 15.0 points.
In Match two the Colts were able finish things in three sets earning the sweep over the Panthers. The Colts took care of business quickly as they defeated the Panthers 25-16, 25-8, and 25-21 giving the Colts their 8th win of the year sitting at an 8-2 record.
In sets one and two the Colts were firing on all cylinders and had a lot of success on the offensive and the defensive end. In this game the Colts played extremely well as a team with no one person leading the charge, with just one athlete posting double digit points each member of the Volleyball team played their part in the exciting win.
#4 Grace Malzahn led the team once again in total digs finishing with a team high 17 digs, Malzahn also added two kills and two points to her night.
#6 Lily Noteboom had another great game leading the team in assists with 11 assists as she extended her streak to 7 games where she finished with 10+ assists. Noteboom also added two kills, 7 service aces and 9.0 points
#8 Araceli Ospina led the team in kills finishing with 8 kills, Ospina also added 6 assists, two service aces and 10 points.
Through two games the Colts had a total of 90 points in those 90 points they had 57 kills on 216 attempts, 53 assists, 26 service aces and 127 digs.
The Colts will have their time to recuperate as they take on Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday October 10th followed by a double duel home as the Colts take on Kingsborough and Queensborough starting at 12:00 Est on Saturday Oct 12th.
